FOSTERING ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP: EMPOWERING STUDENTS TO LEAD SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES IN SCHOOLS

Environmental leadership among students is a vital component of fostering a culture of sustainability within educational institutions. This study examines strategies for empowering students to spearhead sustainability initiatives in schools, focusing on leadership development, collaborative projects, and the integration of environmental stewardship into the curriculum. Through qualitative and quantitative analyses of case studies and student-led initiatives, the research identifies key success factors such as mentorship from educators, peer-to-peer learning, and the use of innovative tools like digital platforms for project management and advocacy. Challenges such as resource constraints, resistance to change, and the need for administrative support are also explored. Results highlight the positive impact of student-led initiatives on school sustainability efforts, including reduced energy consumption, increased recycling rates, and heightened community awareness. The study concludes by recommending actionable frameworks for schools to cultivate environmental leaders who can drive meaningful change.
